Helideck Crash Rescue Equipment
In some circumstances, lives maybe lost if simple ancillary rescue equipment is not readily available.
The CAA stronly recommends the provision of at least the following equipment (see data sheet). Sizes of the equipment are not detailed but should be appropriate for the types of helicopter expected to use the facility.
A responsible person should be appointed to ensure that the rescue equipment is checked and maintained regularly. Rescue equipment should be stored in clearly marked and secure watertight cabinets or chests. An inventory checklist of equipment should be held inside each helideck crask rescue equipment cabinet/chest.

Rescue Grab Hook
Total Length Assembled 4.15 metres.Weight 5 kg.The Rescue Grab Hook is manufactured with a heavy duty steel head coloured orange/red. The handles are manufactured from straight grained Ash of approximately 40 mm diameter, which are strong and non heat conductive. The handle is of a two part construction with a heavy duty screwed brass ferrule. Primarily intended for dragging persons from fire situations. Blunted points permit a bite into clothing without tearing the material.

Lifeline
Available in various lengths. KgInner core made from 72 strands of flexible galvanised steel wire with an outer covering of plaited jute, giving an outer circumference of 3.175 cm. Breaking strain of not less than 1 ton (1016 kg). A non ferrous brass swivel shackle has a breaking strain of 1200 kg. The lifelines are available in varying lengths from 15 metres to 61 metres as standard. Other lengths can be made up to order as required.
Tin Snip Pliers
Heavy duty diagonal cutting pliers manufactured from hardened and tempered steel to give the correct balance between rigidity and flexibility, induction hardened cutting edges and precision machined and chamfered joints. Engineered to cut easily through wire. Tradesmen refer to these pliers as "Diagonal Cutting Nippers", owing to the jaw profile. Handles are manufactured from heavy duty PVC.
